As part of the Summer School of Parenting project, organized by the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci and the Church of St Panteleimon in Mirijevo, a lecture by Vlajko Panović, Specialist in Medical Psychology, entitled “Traditional and Modern Marriage”, was held on Sunday, 23 August 2026.
During the lecture, particular attention was devoted to the challenges faced by single parents in children’s upbringing, as well as to the importance of support from the extended family. The growing number of divorces, including the dissolution of church marriages, and the factors contributing to this trend were also discussed.
The lecturer drew attention to insufficient maturity when entering into marriage, as well as to the selfish expectation that one’s spouse should change in accordance with one’s own expectations, instead of fostering mutual understanding, accepting differences, and growing together throughout married life, particularly following the arrival of children.
The considerable interest shown by those in attendance was further demonstrated by a lively discussion, during which more than twenty specific questions were raised, many of them relating to personal experiences and the challenges of family life.
