Professional Conference for Editors and Representatives of Church Media Held in Kragujevac

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Jovan of Šumadija, and organized by Radio Zlatousti of the Diocese of Šumadija, a two-day professional conference for editors and representatives of church media was held on 4–5 November 2025 in the congress hall of the Šumarice Hotel in Kragujevac. The theme of the conference was “Religious and Church Media and the Media Risks Arising from Citizens’ Legal Rights.”

The conference was formally opened by Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Milić Marković, editor-in-chief of Radio Zlatousti, and Mr Aleksandar Lukić, advisor to the Minister at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia. The first session of the conference took place on 4 November 2025 in the evening, with a lecture delivered by Presbyter Dr Zoran Devrnja, Full Professor at the Department of Canon Law of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade. The topic of his presentation was “Religious Media and the Challenges of the Public Information System in the State and Society.” The session was moderated by Ms Aleksandra Cvetković, journalist at Radio Zlatousti. Following the lecture, a one-hour discussion ensued, raising numerous questions that will remain to be considered in the future.

The working part of the conference continued on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, through two sessions. On the topic “Media Reporting in the Light of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the Law on Personal Data Protection,” the lecture was given by Mr Ilija Obrić, Senior Advisor in the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection. During the final session, Professor Dr Sonja Lučić, Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Kragujevac, delivered a lecture entitled “Limitations of Copyright Law Relevant to Media Work.” The moderators were Ms Gordana Jocić and Ms Aleksandra Cvetković.

Among the participants of the professional gathering were: Presbyter Milan Bandobranski, editor of the Information Service of the Diocese of Bačka; Proto-presbyter Slobodan Aleksić, editor of Radio Istočnik of the Diocese of Valjevo; Catechist Branislav Ilić, editor of the Kinonia portal; Mr Dragan Tadić, editor of Radio Glas of the Diocese of Niš; Presbyter Vladimir Perić, editor of Radio Voice of the Church of the Diocese of Šabac; Deacon Miroslav Bujak and Ms Katarina Marjanović, representatives of Radio Mileševa of the Diocese of Mileševa; as well as representatives of the church media of the Diocese of Šumadija. Representatives of Blagovesnik, the official publication of the Archdiocese of Belgrade, were Rev. Stipo Filipović and Mr Velimir Martinović. The conference also included the participation of Mr Salahudin Fetić, editor of Sandžak TV and the Media Center, and Mr Edin Redžepović, editor of Glas Islama from Novi Pazar.

This year’s professional conference, organized by Radio Zlatousti with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, provided new insights into overcoming the many challenges that arise in the field of media work. It was concluded that the processes of digitalization, legislative reform, and rapid social change demand closer cooperation among religious media, the academic community, and state institutions, in order to preserve professionalism, media ethics, and the right to information.
