Missionary Project, “Tree by the Stream”

This September, the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci is launching a project called Tree by the Stream (cf. Ps. 1:3). The aim of the project is to make the original patristic interpretations of the Holy Scripture more accessible to the modern man, by presenting them in smaller textual units, accompanied by the corresponding editorial commentary. These specially curated segments will benefit both those who are just starting to explore the Orthodox interpretation of the Bible, as well as those already living the liturgical life, who wish to further enrich  their weekly prayer life with the divinely-inspired thoughts of the Church Fathers, such as John Chrysostom, Basil the Great, Gregory the Dialogist, Ephrem the Syrian, Theophylact of Ohrid, Gregory Palamas, and others.

The Tree by the Stream project officially begins on the feast day of the Holy New Martyrs of Jasenovac, on Friday, September 13, 2024, with the interpretation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Initially, the project will be in textual form, with weekly instalments posted on the Missionary Department’s website, before the weekend. . The project is also expected to introduce the audio support in the form of downloadable files soon, for those who find this means of communication more accessible.

The editor and creator of the project is Stanoje Stanković, a permanent expert associate of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci.
