As part of the NevskyTalks project, the Section for External Mission of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci organized another in a series of regular lectures in English, primarily intended for foreign residents in Serbia who show interest in Orthodox Christianity.
The lecture entitled “To Enrich or Not (Deut. 8:18)” was held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., on the premises of the Missionary Department within the parish house of the Church of Saint Alexander Nevsky in Belgrade.
The lecturer was Deacon Dr. Đorđe Petrović, Professor of Dogmatics at the Saint Sava Seminary in Belgrade. The role of moderator was assumed by David Đorđević, a permanent associate of the Section for External Mission, who introduced the distinguished speaker.

In his inspired address, Deacon Dr. Petrović emphasized that everything a person possesses is a gift from God, reminding the audience that true security lies not in material prosperity but in one’s relationship with God. He reflected on whether the acquisition of wealth truly provides security, pointing out that enrichment in itself is not sinful, yet it cannot be the ultimate goal of human life.
The lecture was attended by listeners from Australia, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, who showed keen interest in the topic concerning the relationship between spirituality and material wealth. Several attendees from Serbia were also present.
The introductory lecture and the dialogue that followed lasted about an hour and a half. The audience were extremely interested in the subject, and engaged actively in the discussion and the question and answer session that followed.
At the end of the session, the head of the Missionary Department, Presbyter Dr. Oliver Subotić, expressed gratitude to the lecturer and all the guests who took the time to attend this relevant and inspiring meeting.
