On Wednesday, 24 June, at 6:00 p.m., the Section for Electronic Mission of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci hosted a lecture with a guest speaker Professor Velimir Dedić, PhD, entitled “Principles of Digital Communication in Parish Mission.” The lecture was organised for participants of the Digital Parish Mission course who had successfully completed the training programme, developed their own missionary projects, and received certificates issued by the Section for Electronic Mission. The purpose of the event was to provide participants with further professional development and a deeper understanding of the challenges encountered by Orthodox missionaries in the digital environment. Professor Dedić’s lecture focused on the psychological foundations of online communication. Particular attention was devoted to the importance of sobriety, humility, and responsibility in digital communication, as well as to appropriate ways in which Orthodox Christians serving as administrators of social media accounts should respond to negative comments, misunderstandings, and conflict situations on social media platforms.
The participants actively engaged in the discussion and asked insightful questions, demonstrating an increasingly profound understanding of both the significance of digital mission and the responsibility it entails. According to the participants’ feedback, the lecture proved to be highly valuable and beneficial, helping them to gain a clearer understanding of the challenges of contemporary online communication and of ways to address them in accordance with the spirit of the Orthodox faith. The Section for Electronic Mission will continue organising similar educational events, with the aim of enabling course participants to attain an even higher level of knowledge and preparedness for effective digital parish mission.
