As part of the Missionary Seminar, the fourth and final lecture in the series was held, this time dedicated to the apologetic mission of the Church. The lecture entitled “Principles and Methods of Apologetic Mission” was delivered by Zoran Luković, Coordinator of the Apologetics Section of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade–Karlovci. Like the previous three lectures, this one was held in the parish hall of the Church of St Alexander Nevsky, on Sunday, 28 December 2025, following the Divine Liturgy, at 11:30 a.m. The lecture was attended by approximately 60 participants who, with the blessing of a parish priest, had previously registered to take part in the Missionary Seminar.
The lecturer’s presentation lasted 50 minutes, after which questions and comments from the interested participants followed. Additional reflections, analyses, and clarifications, as well as direct interaction with those present, extended the meeting until 1:30 p.m. The audience posed numerous questions from the fields of apologetics and the practical life of the Church, directly related to the topic of the lecture.
At the very beginning of the presentation, the lecturer offered clear and direct arguments about the necessity of apologetic work, drawing on concrete and recognizable examples from everyday life. These examples were further enhanced through a historical overview, which demonstrated that the apologetic mission is neither a new nor a marginal element of the Church’s activity, but rather a permanent and essential aspect of the witness of faith in various historical circumstances, with particular emphasis on its principles, methods, and challenges in the contemporary social context.
Later on in the lecture, clearly articulated principles and methods of work of the Apologetics Section were presented, with an emphasis on the need for a responsible, well-argued, and pastorally sensitive approach. Special attention was devoted to the challenges currently facing the apologetic mission, such as the superficiality of the contemporary media, misinformation, ideological exclusivism, and insufficient knowledge of the foundations of the faith, as well as the prospects for the further development of apologetic work through systematic education, dialogue, and the use of contemporary forms of communication.
The discussion that ensued was conducted in a dynamic and open manner. Questions from the audience demonstrated a high level of interest in apologetic topics, as well as a need for increased knowledge and the acquisition of practical work guidelines in this field of mission. This part of the session further confirmed the importance of the apologetic mission as a living and relevant sphere of ecclesial activity in contemporary society.
In a time marked by numerous challenges to faith and everyday church life, the apologetic mission represents an important form of witnessing to the truth of the Gospel. In view of this, the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade–Karlovci invites all believers who so desire, to contribute their knowledge and effort to the work of the Apologetics Section, with the blessing of their spiritual father or a parish priest.
