Panel Discussion Held: “Diseases of the Soul and Spirit Today and How to Heal Them”

At the Cultural Centre of Čukarica, on 29 September 2025, the Section for Dialogue in the Public Sphere organized a panel discussion entitled “Diseases of the Soul and Spirit Today and How to Heal Them.” Under the moderation of Presbyter Dr. Aleksandar Milojkov, the discussion brought together, before a large and highly engaged audience, Prof. Dr. Tamara Klikovac, psychotherapist and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade; Prof. Dr. Čedo Miljević, psychiatrist, professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade and research associate at the Institute of Mental Health; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Danilo Mihajlović, professor at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, University of Belgrade and psychotherapist.

Within the context of dialogue between psychology, psychotherapy, and psychiatry on the one hand, and Christian anthropology on the other, the panel addressed crucial questions in the field of mental health, with particular emphasis on the status and impact of the relationship between the human being and the world, and vice versa. This relationship was recognized as a decisive factor both in the etiology of psychological problems and disorders, as well as in their prevention. An obvious bridge between these scientific disciplines and Christian anthropology was established precisely in the discussion of the human being as a relational creature, with the term relation being understood as an ontological constituent of the human being as such.

The numerous attendees had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the concepts of psychological and mental disorders from the perspectives of psychology, psychiatry, and Christian anthropology. They were also introduced to the most frequent psychological and psychiatric conditions encountered in the medical and therapeutic practice of the panel participants (such as depression, anxiety, and narcissistic personality disorder), as well as to therapeutic practices and preventive measures.

The event concluded with questions from the audience, which included several distinguished figures from the fields of science and medicine. Among them was Dr. Vlajko Panović, whose brief contribution further enriched the discussion on this significant anthropological topic.

The entire event was covered by TV Hram.
