A Lecture titled “Mihajlo Pupin – A Faithful Son of the Serbian Orthodox Church” given in English

A lecture in English on the topic “Mihajlo Pupin – A Faithful Son of the Serbian Orthodox Church”, organised by the Section for External Mission of the Missionary Department of the AEM, in collaboration with the St. Alexander Nevsky Church, as part of the NevskyTalks project was held on May 30, 2024.

The speaker was Presbyter Aleksandar Sekulic, a parish priest of the St. Alexander Nevsky Church and a military chaplain at the General Staff of the Serbian Army. Father Aleksandar is a graduate from the St. Sava’s Orthodox Theological Faculty in Libertyville, USA, and he developed an interest in the life and work of Mihajlo Pupin during his collaboration with Professor Radmila Milentijevic. The evening’s moderator was Presbyter Dr. Oliver Subotic, the Director of the Department.

Father Aleksandar revealed some interesting biographical facts about Mihajlo Pupin, including his upbringing, education, migration to the USA as well as his academic career, his science and research projects, his acquaintance with Nikola Tesla and, as the high point of the lecture, about Mihajlo Pupin’s Christian virtues and his contribution to the life of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA.

The lecture was attended, apart from the regular foreign nationals, by some new ones, and also by some local Serbs with interest in the topic, including the foremost expert on Nikola Tesla, Dr. Branimir Jovanovic. This expert made his contribution to the discussion at the end of the lecture and then engaged in a lengthy conversation with the speaker on the topic at hand.

The next NevskyTalks missionary project lecture is planned for the second half of June.
