Lecture on the Topic: “Digital Animation in the Service of Gospel Mission”

Organised by the Electronic Mission Section of the Missionary Department of the
Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci, a lecture entitled “The Application of Digital
Animation in Gospel Mission” was held on Friday, 21 August 2026. The lecture was
delivered by Strahinja Vukić, a participant in the Digital Parish Mission course. Those
who attended the lecture online had the opportunity to learn about the potential
applications of contemporary digital technologies and visual art in the Church’s
missionary work, as well as to view specific examples of 3D modelling and animation.
Strahinja presented his 3D models, conceived and animated with the intention of
directing the viewers’ attention towards Christ, the Divine Liturgy, and life within the
Church through visual and symbolic representation. A special part of the presentation
was devoted to the importance of visual art and its potential to become an instrument
of contemporary Gospel mission when created responsibly and in the spirit of the
Church’s Tradition. The discussion also addressed the importance of icons, the
Church’s dogmatic Tradition, and the blessing required for artistic work of a
missionary character.

During the gathering, works from the Uncreated Light YouTube channel were also
presented, together with the animated film The Liturgy. The shared viewing of
selected video works provided an opportunity to discuss how digital media may be
used to bear witness to the faith and bring the message of the Gospel closer to
contemporary audiences. The participants asked questions concerning the process
of creating 3D models, animation, and the technical aspects involved in producing
this type of content. The discussion also generated constructive suggestions for the
further development of the works, including the possibility of adding voice-over and
narration to the video content.

The presentation demonstrated that contemporary technology is not an end in itself,
but may become an instrument of mission when used thoughtfully, responsibly, and
with the clear intention of directing people towards Christ. This gathering provided yet
another opportunity, within the activities of the Electronic Mission Section of the
Missionary Department, to discuss new forms of the Church’s presence in the digital
sphere and the ways in which contemporary media, technology, and creativity may
be placed in the service of spreading the Word of God.
