Launch of the Apologetic Portal by the Missionary Department

We are pleased to inform both the general public and the expert community that the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci has launched yet another Orthodox missionary online portal on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, in the Year of Our Lord 2025. This new platform, Apologetsko Slovo, is available at apologetskoslovo.rs. Following the launch of the Kinonia portal (kinonija.rs) six months ago, Apologetsko Slovo represents a new missionary initiative aimed at furthering the mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the digital space.

The beta version of Apologetsko Slovo  was initially trialled on the Feast of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in 2024 (19th December), since this is the day we commemorate a Saint that was  a distinguished defender of Orthodoxy in the Early Church. This date was also chosen because it marked the 110th anniversary of the birth of the late Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Professor Dr. Lazar Milin, the greatest Serbian apologist of all time and one of the most prominent Serbian Orthodox intellectuals of the second half of the 20th century. The creation of this apologetic portal serves as a tribute to this unjustly forgotten missionary and apologist.

Father Lazar Milin was a tireless labourer in the Lord’s vineyard, remembered as a charismatic preacher, a sharp-witted writer, and an indefatigable apologist whose works have left a lasting impact on many generations, including those who are now part of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci. With his passing into eternity, Orthodox apologetics has been largely neglected, and the launch of Apologetsko Slovo is one of the steps taken to remedy this situation.

The official launch of Apologetsko Slovo on the Sunday of Orthodoxy is deeply symbolic, as the website will be dedicated to providing an Orthodox response to contemporary apologetic challenges facing the Church.

The mission of Apologetsko Slovo is to gradually develop into a comprehensive database containing relevant articles, academic texts, essays, lectures, and archival materials contributed by recognized experts in this field. The portal will be edited and managed by Zoran Luković, Coordinator of the Apologetic Mission Section of the Missionary Department of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci, and the leading Serbian expert on totalitarian and destructive cults and New Age doctrines.

In addition, Apologetsko Slovo will serve as a platform for intellectual exchange, aiming to attract both academics and the general public interested in a deeper understanding of Orthodox apologetics. One of the portal’s key objectives is to offer media professionals a reliable and regularly updated database of verified information on topics related to alternative spirituality, sectarian activities, totalitarian and destructive cults, neopaganism, New Age doctrines, contemporary heresies, schismatic movements, various forms of crypto-proselytism, and related issues.

Lastly, but no less importantly, the portal is designed to inspire young theologians to take an interest in apologetics as a discipline, recognizing its essential role in the life of the Church today.
